What is the au pair programme?

The au pair programme give the opportunity to young people between the ages of 18-26 to travel the USA on a J-1 Exchange Visitor Visa for 12-24 months. Au pairs live with a host family, take classes at a local college, and assist in childcare duties in the home—in return, they’re given opportunities to immerse themselves in a new country and culture, making memories they’ll cherish forever.

Founded in 1986, the au pair programme in the USA started out as a diplomacy program. Since then, it has grown into something much more. It’s a way to spread cross-cultural understanding and tolerance. It’s a chance to build bonds with people from all walks of life. It’s an opportunity to become global citizens, role models, and ambassadors for countries near and far.

Why become an au pair?

By journeying to the USA to travel, learn and grow, au pairs deeply enrich the lives of those around them with cultural exchange. They make a lifelong impact in the lives of their host kids, host parents, friends, and communities abroad.

When you join the au pair programme, you join a community of like-minded people. Together, those people form global families with the power to change the world.
